Having a garage sale is something a lot of Americans do to get rid of clutter and make some extra cash on the side. They can be easy to plan but also a headache if you don’t plan it out well. Depending on how much stuff you have, you can easily make over $700 on a 2 day weekend. That money can be used for bills or anything that sparks your interest. Here are a couple tips to have a well planned garage sale:
1. Gather Your Items That You Want To Sell
This should always be the first step to a successful garage sale. Go through your garage, basement and anywhere else in your house to find unwanted items so you can make a quick buck out of them. Don’t be scared to let go of items that you don’t use anymore because that just creates unwanted clutter.
2. Write Down Inventory
Grab a piece of paper or use your smart phone to write a list of what you gathered. Go ahead and write the price you want to sell each item for. Be fair on the price so the item sells and doesn’t stay on the shelf.
3. Pick A Date
Picking a date should always be a weekend that best fits your schedule. Make sure you are free at least two days on the weekend you hold the sale. Most people like to hold them on Friday and Saturday morning. You will gain more customers in the morning because it won’t interrupt their schedule if they have something to do later that day.
This is one of the most important steps. If you don’t do this step properly, you might not get the outcome you were hoping for. You need to put some effort and time into making readable signs to put up around busy roads leading to your house. Grab some bright signs to catch peoples eyes while they are driving. Put these signs up a couple of days before your sale so people have time to put it into their schedule. You can also advertise in the local newspaper or sites such as Craigslist but make sure you remember to put down the exact date and time you are having the sale.
5. Make The Customer Feel Welcomed
You can make your customers feel comfortable by putting out some cold lemonade for free. Also, talk to you customers like you would if you worked at a retail store. Having fantastic customer service will put them in a better mood and they just might by that item they were looking at.
Those were just a couple tips on how to run a successful garage sale. Once the sale is done and if you have left over stuff, you can call a junk removal company to haul away the rest. Here is a small video on some other good tips. Good Luck!
