How To Declutter Successfully

Cluttered Living Room

Cluttered Living Room

Clutter can be an annoyance depending on the degree it’s in. Most people have disorganized stuff around them as you read this. Don’t believe me? Look around in the room you are in, I’m sure there is some object that you can move to it’s appropriate place to be more organized. We developed a list of the top 5 ways to keep yourself decluttered successfully.

1. Developing a Strategy
This is one of the most common mistakes in the decluttering stage. If your house is strongly disorganized, you need to come up with a strategy to bring it up to par. We recommend taking a tour around your house and write down everything that needs to be organized. This way when you start the declutter process, you can easily check off all the steps you’ve taken care of.

2. Give Yourself Enough Time
To avoid not forgetting anything on that checklist, you need to give yourself an appropriate amount of time. Pick a day and a time slot that you know you will be available to knock this task out of the water!

3. Use Proper Storage
This step goes back to step 2 in a way. If you don’t give yourself enough time, you might just end up throwing things in the closet. The best thing to do is to get yourself a few small storage containers and write with a marker on the lid what will be inside of them. After that is done, move them into your closet or garage for a nice clean look.

4. Stick To A Schedule
You need to pick a couple days out of the month to organize and declutter your home. Don’t just do it once and forget about it until it’s messy again. If you have kids, I’m sure there are toys laying around the house. Give yourself 10 minutes out of the day to put those toys up and you should be good to go!

5. Junking Unwanted Stuff
This one can be tricky because you might be undecided what needs to be tossed in the donation corner. Take a look at some of the stuff you are cleaning up and ask yourself when is the last time you used it. If you haven’t used that item in a while, it might be time to retire it. Gather things in a box and bring it to your local donation center. If it’s plain old junk, it might be time for you to trash it.
